Love believes all things, hopes all things
1 Corinthians 13:7
It is so easy to get caught up in the negative things about your spouse. I am definitely one of those people that after the first 2 years of marriage passed, I started to notice things that Vance DIDN'T do or things that bothered me that he did and stopped noticing things that he was doing correctly. Things like, oh, I don't know, working hard to support our family, providing the income so that I could stay home with Brooke, taking out the trash EVERY Monday (I have never taken out the trash. Not once), killing all roaches that come across my path, cutting the grass in our yard, washing the cars ... the list is endless. I am realizing over and over again that we need to focus on the positive and not just with strangers that pass us by, acquaintances, friends ... but with our spouses too.
TODAY’S DARE
FOR TODAY’S DARE, GET TWO SHEETS OF PAPER. ON THE FIRST ONE, SPEND A FEW MINUTES WRITING OUT POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE. THEN DO THE SAME WITH NEGATIVE THINGS ON THE SECOND SHEET. PLACE BOTH SHEETS IN A SECRET PLACE FOR ANOTHER DAY. THERE IS A DIFFERENT PURPOSE AND PLAN FOR EACH. AT SOME POINT DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY, PICK A POSITIVE ATTRIBUTE FROM THE FIRST LIST AND THANK YOUR SPOUSE FOR HAVING THIS CHARACTERISTIC.
Which list was easier to make? What did this reveal about your thoughts? What attribute did you thank your spouse for having?

Clearly I didn't get back to you in time to do this! :( CRAZY DAY! Maybe I should do this list though :)
ReplyDeleteSo true. Our hubbies sound a lot alike. I try to thank him a lot for all the good things, but it's easy to let the irritations creep in, big or little. Yet another thing to work on! :-)
